I had the same problem last month at work. I wish I had other options, but I didn’t. Unfortunately there’s no fix in either XP or Vista.
I eventually created a 6 minute movie, but the only way I could get it to work was to keep the editing to an absolute minimum. I’d trim my video using Audacity (which is a free download) and the video I just had to edit in WMM and keep my fingers crossed. I found that asking WMM to do too much at one time was the source of my crashes.
Good luck!
Damn! You guy never learn. ::.. the only great thing about windows is nothing and all its standard apps are **** go to download.com and on the search bar type free movie editor with these you can edit every format unlike wmm that work with a few like avi good luck and if possible remove office, download the free openoffice from openoffice.org

The most common cause of computer freezes is a corrupt registry.
Corruption within your registry keys, registry classes, and registry settings are the most common causes of Windows error messages.
The Computer registry is a database that stores all of your computer
settings. The computer registry becomes more complex as you use your computer. The more programs you use the greater the chance your
computer registry will develop errors and become bloated over time. Without cleaning the registry on a regular basis it is very likely that your PC will freeze.
Cleaning the Windows registry improves the performance of your computer and will reduce the number of PC freezes. The Registry cleaner cleans the registry and frees up Windows registry space.
